India will keep the middle order flexible against England: Akshar Patel

New Delhi. Indian cricket team's promising all-rounder Akshar Patel talked about the Indian team taking the field against England with a flexible middle order. He said on Monday that Team India will work with a flexible middle order during the five-match T20 series against England.

The Indian team, which won the T20 World Cup last year, has included players like Axar Patel in its batting lineup, who has been made the vice-captain of the team. Speaking to reporters ahead of the series opener against England on Wednesday, the spin bowling all-rounder said only openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma can hope for guaranteed batting positions.

Patel said, “…the openers are fixed but all the batsmen from number three to number seven have been told that they can come to bat at any time, in any position.” He said, “Our middle-order will come to bat depending on the situation of the match, what kind of bowlers are bowling at that time, which pair is working well. “We talked about how we can all be floaters, whether it's coming in early or finishing clear.”

“How you use your batsmen in T20 Internationals is very important, so that's an important factor in batting,” he said. In recent matches for India, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, The batting order of Washington Sundar and Rinku Singh has been changed several times.

50-over cricket remains his priority in the run-up to the Champions Trophy, but Akshar said India are planning to defend their title in next year's T20 World Cup, which they will host along with Sri Lanka. Akshar said, “The World Cup is going to be held in a year, so how we will move forward before that, we want to work on it right now. This is our main goal.”
