‘India looking for a balm’: Ravi Shastri on unstoppable Travis Head’ache’
New Delhi: In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Australia batter Travis Head is posing some serious threat to Team India with each game passing. The southpaw has been in a sensational form so far and can be termed as the backbone of the Aussie batting lineup. His batting efforts, while on the crease, led India legend Ravi Shastri to make a light-hearted remark, saying India are looking for a balm for a ‘headache’ called Travis.
“Because his new surname is Travis Head’ache’. They are looking for balms in India. For foot problems, ankle problems (and) even a headache they are looking for a balm. He is ideal for that,” Shastri said on the ICC review. He further added that when Head is on a roll, he is very difficult to stop. “He picks up length very well. That’s one of his great strengths. And he has a flashing blade for the offside. So he’s a hard man to contain. And he’s in the form of his life,” Shastri added.
Head was dismissed for 11 in his first innings of the series but went on to pile up scores of 89, 140, and 152 in his next three innings. He played a vital role in the pink ball Test that Australia claimed by 10 wickets to level the five-Test affair 1-1.
‘He has improved immensely’ – Shastri
Shastri termed Head as “very smart” as he compared his present form to that of three years back, saying that he has improved immensely. He highlighted his ability to play the short balls saying that he is prepared to leave them, having learned to leave it at times. The ex-India coach also added that Head’s ability to judge the ball’s line and length in a quick manner gives him enough time to play the right shot.
“It’s not a big shot all the time off a short delivery angled at his armpits or something. He’s prepared to either ride it or go for the big shots. And if it is middle, middle and off, then he hits it in front of square as well,” Shastri added.
