India, MEA on over arrest Chinmoy Krishna Das in Bangladesh News In Hindi: A day after Bangladesh Police arrested ISKCON leader Chinmoy Krishna Das and refused to grant him bail, India on Tuesday lodged a strong protest against the arrest. Terming the incident as “unfortunate”, the External Affairs Ministry in a statement stressed that the perpetrators of the attacks on Hindus were still roaming free. The Ministry of External Affairs urged Bangladesh to ensure the safety of Hindus in the country.

Chinmay Krishna Das, leader of Hindu group Samishta Sanatani Jot, was arrested from Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday.

Rezaul Karim, spokesman for the police's detective branch, said that Das was detained on the request of regular police; However, he declined to provide details of the allegations. A Bangladesh court on Tuesday ordered the jailing of Hindu group Samishta Sanatani Jote leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari after rejecting his bail plea.

Following the arrest, India urged Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities, including their right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.

ISKCON leader arrested
Bangladesh Police arrested Das from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday. “Das was detained as per the request of (regular police),” said Rezaul Karim, spokesman for the police's detective branch. However, the arrest was made without giving details of the charges.

Meanwhile, according to The Daily Star, hundreds of people from the Hindu community gathered at Cheragi Pahar intersection in the port city around 6:00 pm on Monday and demanded the immediate release of Das.

On October 30, Chittagong's Kotwali police station registered a case against 19 people, including Das, accusing them of insulting the national flag of Bangladesh during a rally of the Hindu community in Chittagong's New Market area.
