Actually, recently the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has made a big change regarding toll payment. According to the instructions of NHAI, from April 1, 2026, cash payment at toll plazas has been completely stopped. Now toll tax will be collected only through Fastag or UPI. The aim of the government is to make toll payment completely digital, so that there are no long queues of vehicles at toll plazas and the road remains clean. This will not cause any problem in vehicular traffic and people will be able to reach their destination on time.
What is the new toll plaza rule?

NHAI has clarified that now drivers will have to pay through FASTag or UPI only. With digital payment, the stopping time of a vehicle at the toll plaza will be reduced to just 3 seconds.
On the other hand, if you scan and pay through UPI, you will have to pay a fine of 1.25 times the toll fee. Earlier this fine was double for cash payment. The government says that digital payment will bring transparency in illegal collection at toll plazas and there will be no congestion of vehicles.
What changed in FASTag annual pass?
Apart from this, the government has also changed the annual pass fee of the new FASTag. This is a relief news for those drivers who travel long distances daily. After this rule they will not have to recharge FASTag again and again. Under the new rules issued by the ministry, the price of FASTag annual pass has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 3,075 for the financial year 2026-27.

Check KYC of FASTag

If not, then get it updated immediately so that there is no problem during the journey.
