Sri Lanka Cyclone Relief India: Cyclone Ditvaha has caused huge devastation in Sri Lanka. The situation remains critical in many districts due to continuous rains and floods. Due to landslides and road damage, connectivity to many areas has been completely broken.

In this difficult situation, the neighboring country India immediately extended its helping hand and intensified the relief and rescue operation under Operation Sagar Bandhu. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday shared an important update on the campaign.

Unit arrived to restore the routes

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told on ‘X’ that another C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force has landed in Colombo, Sri Lanka, carrying about 55 tonnes of Bailey bridge construction material, a JCB machine and 13 personnel of the Engineering Corps. This was the third consecutive flight that has carried Bailey Bridge Units to restore damaged roads and routes in Sri Lanka.

Earlier on Friday also, a C-17 aircraft had reached Colombo with a 25-member team of medical experts and engineers. This team has been deployed to restore relief structures in many areas.

Immediate health services to the needy

According to information given by the Indian High Commission, the Indian field hospital sent on December 3 is now fully active in Mahiyanganaya near Kandy. The hospital treated nearly 400 patients affected by the cyclone in the first 24 hours alone, including 55 minor procedures and one major surgery. The Indian medical team is continuously working with the local administration to provide prompt health services to the needy.

Relief work is not limited to the medical realm alone. NDRF teams have also successfully completed several life-saving missions under Operation Sagar Bandhu. The teams rescued a visually impaired senior citizen and an injured woman and provided first aid to them on the spot.

Speed ​​up search and rescue operations

India had launched an immediate assistance initiative after Cyclone Ditvaha caused severe flooding in Sri Lanka on November 28, causing loss of life and damage to infrastructure. Under this, Indian Navy ships INS Vikrant and INS Udayagiri reached Sri Lanka with relief material. Helicopters deployed from both the warships conducted aerial survey of the affected areas and intensified search and rescue operations.
