India REFUSE to keep Pakistan name as hosts on ICC Champions Trophy 2025, says report

New Delhi: As per an IANS report, a PCB official confirmed that India has expressed reluctance to have Pakistan’s name on their jerseys, a practice followed by all teams during ICC tournaments. The official also accused the BCCI of politicizing cricket, highlighting India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan and sending Rohit Sharma for the opening ceremony.

India is set to begin their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh. This marks the first ICC tournament held in Pakistan since the 1996 ODI World Cup. However, due to security concerns, India will not travel to Pakistan and will play all their matches in Dubai. The BCCI and PCB have been in disagreement over the tournament’s hybrid format.

The BCCI is reportedly planning another move that may upset the PCB ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. According to IANS, a PCB official has confirmed that India does not want Pakistan’s name on their jerseys, a tradition followed by all teams during ICC tournaments. The PCB official accused the BCCI of politicizing cricket and highlighted that India not only refused to travel to Pakistan but also declined to send their captain, Rohit Sharma, for the opening ceremony.

The PCB official stated, “BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is detrimental to the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan, won’t send their captain for the opening ceremony, and now there’s talk about not having Pakistan’s name on their jerseys. We believe the ICC will not allow this and will support Pakistan.”
