India should learn from JKE in the decisive battle against West Indies: Saikia

Before the important match against West Indies in the Super-8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2026, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has called on the Indian team to take inspiration from Jammu and Kashmir’s historic Ranji Trophy win. The team led by Suryakumar Yadav will face two-time world champions West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, with a semi-final ticket at stake.

Jammu and Kashmir won the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 title by defeating eight-time champion Karnataka by taking advantage of a huge lead in the first innings at the Hubli Cricket Ground on Saturday. Saikia believes that this victory is a perfect example for Team India.

Speaking to IANS, Saikia said, “Sunday is a big day for the country. JKE thrashed Karnataka at home, which gives the message that anything is possible in cricket. Our match against West Indies in Kolkata is like a semi-final. The players will give their best and make the country proud.”

The winning team of this match will directly reach the semi-finals. On Thursday, India defeated Zimbabwe by 72 runs. Abhishek Sharma scored 55 runs on 30 balls, Hardik Pandya scored unbeaten 50 runs on 23 balls and Tilak Verma scored 44 runs on 16 balls. Batting first, India scored 256 runs for 4 wickets in 20 overs, which is their highest score in the T20 World Cup. Zimbabwe were reduced to 184/6. This was a great comeback after the 76-run defeat to South Africa in the first match of Super-8. Inspired by JKE’s story, India is desperate to defeat West Indies.
