India tightens grip on Bangladesh in Chennai Test – Tezzbuzz

Chasing an improbable target of 515 runs, Bangladesh found themselves in trouble at 158/4 at the end of Day 3 in the first Test against India. The day’s play came to an early halt due to bad light at Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, despite Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s appeal to continue with spin bowling.

The umpires, however, deemed conditions unsafe and asked players to leave the field. After further assessment, they ruled out any possibility of a resumption. In response to the lost time, play will begin at 9:20 PM IST on Sunday, 10 minutes earlier than the originally scheduled start.

Earlier in the day, India declared their second innings at 287/4, setting Bangladesh an imposing target of 515. The backbone of India’s commanding performance was built by Shubman Gill, who remained unbeaten with a scintillating knock of 119*, and Rishabh Pant, who added a brisk 109. The duo hammered centuries, piling on the pressure and giving India the upper hand.

With a mammoth lead already in hand, Rohit Sharma decided to pull the plug on India’s innings, giving his bowlers ample time to dismantle the Bangladesh batting lineup.

Faced with a monumental task, Bangladesh’s top order faltered under India’s relentless bowling attack. The hosts lost quick wickets, with their top order failing to build a substantial partnership. At 158/4, the target of 515 looked even more distant as they headed into Day 4 with a mountain to climb.

India’s bowlers will look to capitalize on the pressure they’ve already built, aiming for a swift wrap-up of Bangladesh’s innings when play resumes. Bangladesh, on the other hand, faces an uphill battle, needing a heroic effort from their remaining batsmen to save the game and avoid an innings defeat.

With two days left and India in a commanding position, the hosts will have to dig deep to delay the inevitable. As the clock ticks, all eyes will be on the Indian bowling unit to see if they can deliver the knockout blow on Day 4.
