India to build ‘smart border’ along Pakistan, Bangladesh frontiers to curb infiltration: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced that India is moving rapidly towards a fully technology-driven border security system along the Pakistan and Bangladesh frontiers.

The Center is preparing to implement a large-scale “smart border” project aimed at preventing infiltration, smuggling and cross-border threats through advanced surveillance infrastructure.

Speaking at the Rustamji Memorial Lecture organized in honor of Border Security Force founder KF Rustamji, Shah said the government is strengthening national security by deploying modern monitoring systems and smart fencing technology across sensitive border regions.

High-Tech Surveillance to Boost Border Security

According to Shah, the upcoming smart border infrastructure will include high-resolution cameras, radars, motion sensors, drone detection systems and integrated real-time monitoring platforms. These systems are expected to help security agencies detect infiltration attempts, illegal crossings, cattle smuggling, narcotics trafficking and suspicious activities instantly.

He said the Integrated Border Management System and smart fencing projects are expected to be rolled out on a wider scale within this year. The Home Minister also confirmed that land acquisition for the project is progressing quickly in border states.

West Bengal Extends Support for Border Projects

Amit Shah stated that the West Bengal government has already provided the required land for several border security projects. He added that central and state administrations are working together to strengthen security arrangements in regions bordering Bangladesh, especially in Assam, Tripura and West Bengal.

The Home Minister noted that the Border Security Force (BSF) will receive complete administrative support to complete fencing and surveillance projects without delay.

Tough Stand on Infiltration and Naxalism

Shah asserted that India has consistently responded firmly to terrorism and infiltration attempts. He warned that the country would continue taking strong action against any external threats if required.

On internal security, Shah said the government’s anti-Naxal operations are delivering major results and claimed that India is moving rapidly towards becoming Naxal-free. He stressed that the government’s strategy is not just to control threats temporarily but to eliminate them completely.

BSF to Get Expanded Responsibilities

The Home Minister also announced that the BSF will now work more closely with local administrations to curb illegal border activities. Coordination between district authorities, local officials and security forces will be intensified to strengthen monitoring along vulnerable stretches of the international border.
