India to rest KL Rahul for England series: Report
Team India wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul will be rested for the upcoming white-ball matches against England. He has been a key player in one-day internationals since his move to the middle order, but hasn’t played a T20I since the ICC T20 World 2022 semi-final against England in Adelaide.
Rahul performed well in hbe recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. He was promoted as an opener and played important knocks for the sub-continent team.
He shared a 201-run partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second innings of the series opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth. He opened in the next two games but was moved to No.3 spot in the Boxing Day Test.
After a tour of Australia, several senior players are likely to be rested. Although the upcoming ODI series against England is India’s last assignment before the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, workload management might see some new faces in the team.
According to a report by the Times of India, KL Rahul has sealed his place in the Champions Trophy squad and hence he will not play in the 50-over matches against the Jos Buttler-les team. “Rahul’s place is confirmed for the ICC Champions Trophy and the selectors have decided to rest him against England,” a source told TOI..
KL Rahul led Men in Blue in the ODI series after the 2023 World Cup, and was also part of the 0-2 series defeat against Sri Lanka in 2024.
