India-US trade deal: Piyush Goyal’s sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi, said- Congress leaders are doing politics of lies on trade deal.

New Delhi/Mumbai. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has hit back at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s campaign against the India-US trade agreement, saying that he is doing politics on this issue with the help of lies. Piyush Goyal told reporters in Mumbai on Saturday that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is putting himself under question. India needs to import cotton. Under the Congress led UPA government itself, SEJ sector units have been given duty free import facility for cotton.

He said that Rahul Gandhi is doing politics against the India-US trade agreement and for this ‘now the help of lies is being taken.’ Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said that when Congress leaders could not find any flaw in this agreement, they resorted to lies. In this way he is foolishly trying to prove his own hollowness. Piyush Goyal was talking to reporters in Mumbai.

Rahul Gandhi had said in a post on X today that ‘The Prime Minister and his cabinet, who are expert in lying, are spreading confusion on this. And… they are cheating the country’s cotton farmers and textile exporters with the India-US trade agreement.” Rahul Gandhi also said that Bangladesh will get zero duty entry on garments exports to the US but it will get this benefit on the condition of purchasing cotton from the US.

Piyush Goyal described the India-US interim agreement reached after long negotiations as full of opportunities for India and said that provisions have been made in it to completely protect the interests of farmers, fishermen and other weaker sections of the country. He said, ‘Rahul Gandhi is trying to harm India’s development journey through negative politics.’

The Commerce Minister said, “I will expose the fear-mongering politics of Rahul Gandhi by which he is misleading the farmers and exporters.” He said that the fact is that ‘the nine Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) of our time, involving a total of 38 developed countries, have opened the doors to huge potential markets worth Rs 45 lakh crore of textiles for Indian exporters. The Commerce Minister said that at present India’s textile export is worth Rs 4 lakh crore and the possibilities of increasing it with these new agreements are worth considering.

He said, “This will create employment opportunities for lakhs of young men and women in the textile sector itself.” On the Congress leader’s point about the threat of cotton imports from America, Shri Goyal said, “Rahul Gandhi does not know that cotton production in America is very low and after domestic consumption, America’s cotton and yarn exports are only worth 6 billion dollars. “They don’t even know that Bangladesh imports $2.7 billion worth of cotton from India, and will have to do so in the future because the US doesn’t have much cotton to export.”

The Commerce Minister said, “On one hand Rahul is attacking the prospects of our textile exporters, on the other hand he is scaring the farmers without any reason.” He said that with the possibility of huge growth in India’s textile sector with this agreement, the demand for Indian cotton will continuously increase and the income of the farmers will increase.

Taking a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Piyush Goyal also said, “When the Congress government was headed by your own family, under the Foreign Trade Policy and the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Act (Rule 27(1)), duty-free import of raw materials used in making products for export was allowed, which includes cotton.”

The Commerce Minister said that when Rahul Gandhi attacks “zero-duty imports for exports”, he is attacking policies initiated by his own party! It is not surprising that such ignorant opposition leaders fail in election after election. Describing India’s textile sector as the lifeblood of India’s economy, Piyush Goyal said, “Rahul ji, the US trade agreement and other FTAs made by the NDA government will be of great benefit to both Indian farmers and textile workers… and the people of India have faith in Prime Minister Modi.” Your bundle of lies will fail.”
