Historic Bilateral Clash to Feature One-Off Test in Landmark Tour

The India vs Afghanistan ODI series in 2026 will be the first-ever bilateral series marking a new chapter in cricketing rivalry, which is preceded by a one-off test.

The tour will be the first international assignment after the conclusion of the IPL 2026, which runs between March and May.

Both sides have met in ICC tournaments and the Asia Cup, but have never met on bilateral ODI series. The schedule for the India vs Afghanistan ODI series and one-off test has been confirmed by the BCCI on Monday, where we might see Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma return to action.

According to the plan, the series begins with the test to be played between June 06 and 10 in New Chandigarh. Meanwhile, the ODI series will start on June 14 at Dharamsala.

The second ODI will be played on June 17 at Lucknow, while the final clash will be played on June 20 at Chennai.

The India vs Afghanistan ODI series will be a crucial preparation for both sides ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Previously, Afghanistan played their debut test against India in 2018, which was their debut match in the format after being granted test status by the International Cricket Council in 2017.

“Afghanistan will play one Test match followed by a three-match One-Day International (ODI) series. The Test match will be played in New Chandigarh from June 6 to June 10, 2026. The ODI series will commence on June 14, 2026, in Dharamshala, with the subsequent matches scheduled in Lucknow and Chennai. All ODI matches will begin at 1:30 PM IST,” said a BCCI statement.

Currently, the Men in Blues are involved in the T20 World Cup 2026, where they qualified for the semifinals under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav.

With a solid knock from Sanju Samson, India secured a five-wicket victory against West Indies in a high-intense Super 8s game encounter played at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
