BCCI Apex Council will finalize the decision

The appointment of Shreyas Iyer as Team India’s T20 captain is likely to get the final approval during the online meeting of the BCCI Apex Council. Once the decision gets official approval, chief selector Ajit Agarkar will brief the national selection committee about it.

Discussions were going on for the last several weeks regarding the future captaincy of Team India’s T20 team, and now BCCI seems ready to hand over this responsibility to Iyer.

Iyer will captain Team India on Ireland and England tour

Shreyas Iyer will captain Team India’s T20 team on the upcoming tours of Ireland and England. The team selection meeting for both these tours is scheduled to be held on June 6, and it is expected that Iyer will join the discussion as the new captain.

While on one hand the head coach of Team India supported Sanju Samson’s name for captaincy, on the other hand chief selector Ajit Agarkar was in favor of Shreyas Iyer. After internal discussions, Iyer’s name was finally agreed upon.

The move is believed to be part of the board’s long-term plans for the shortest format of the game as Tilak has emerged as one of India’s most promising young players.
