India vs West Indies: “Do or die” match for India, tomorrow will be the decisive clash of Super 8, know the complete details of the match.

Kolkata: Indian batsmen are now looking in their old form but the bowlers have still not been able to perform impressively and in such circumstances, they will have to perform better in this department in the Super Eight match like quarter-final of the T20 World Cup to be held here on Sunday against West Indies.

West Indies’ defeat to South Africa and India’s win over Zimbabwe have made this Group 1 Super Eight match a do-or-die match for both the teams. Therefore, now both the teams will leave no stone unturned and in such a situation an exciting match can be seen at Eden Gardens. The winner of this match will get a chance to play in the second semi-final against England on March 5. India performed well in batting against Zimbabwe. Its batsmen have returned to form at the right time and now it is the turn of the bowlers. All the top six batsmen, including Sanju Samson, who returned to the top order in the last match, made useful contributions. Sanju scored only 24 runs, but he increased the run rate in the beginning which had a positive effect on the rest of the batsmen.

His aggressive approach boosted the morale of Abhishek Sharma, whose previous best score in this tournament was 15, which he made after being out for ducks in three consecutive matches. Abhishek made a brilliant comeback by scoring a half-century while Tilak Verma, in his new role of number six, batted with new determination and scored 44 runs in 16 balls. India scored 256 runs for four wickets, which is the highest score so far in this T20 World Cup. But this does not mean that they have reached the Gardens of Eden without any worries. Left arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh bowled well against Zimbabwe. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya have also performed brilliantly, but spin bowler Varun Chakravarthy is not looking in his old form.

The mystery spinner has failed to control his length properly and seems to be experimenting too much. India suffered a loss against South Africa due to Chakravarthy not being able to get going. Chakraborty had given away 47 runs in four overs in that match. Varun bowled mostly short pitch balls against South Africa and even when he tried to bowl full length balls against Zimbabwe, he did not get much success. In this match, experienced Sikandar Raza targeted him. Varun gave 35 runs in four overs in this match.
It remains to be seen whether the team management retains Chakraborty in the playing eleven or includes left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the squad. Kuldeep has played only one match (against Pakistan) so far in the current tournament. Both Varun and Kuldeep have played most of the matches of their IPL career on this ground for Kolkata Knight Riders and they are well aware of the conditions here. Chakraborty, however, has played more matches here. Another concern is all-rounder Shivam Dubey’s erratic bowling performance. Against Zimbabwe, Dubey conceded 46 runs in just two overs, which included four wides and two no-balls in one over of 10 balls.

Head coach Gautam Gambhir’s fascination for all-rounders is well known, but Dubey’s medium pace bowling may backfire for West Indies on the Eden pitch. With the Eden Gardens pitch likely to have some grass on it, the fast bowling trio of Bumrah, Arshdeep and Pandya should get some help. West Indies have performed well so far in this tournament. His strategy is clear. Playing with some caution in the beginning and later attacking fearlessly. Due to this strategy, he won five consecutive matches, but South Africa stopped his winning streak. West Indies have depth in their batting and its example was seen against South Africa when Romario Shepherd, who came to bat at number nine, scored an unbeaten half-century. Shimron Hetmyer’s coming at number three has also proved to be a very positive decision. Given the dry pitch at Eden Gardens, West Indies may consider including left-arm spinner Akil Hussain in the team.
