India will also be a main partner in ‘Hexagon of Alliances’
India will also be a key partner in the ‘Hexagon of Alliances’. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has revealed plans to form a new regional alliance, named ‘Hexagon of Alliances’. This alliance is being formed with the aim of countering the growing radical threat in the Middle East, and it includes India as a key partner. This announcement comes just ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel, which begins today, February 25.
Alliance against Radical Axis
Netanyahu mentioned this plan in his cabinet meeting on 22 February and said that this alliance will work against the ‘radical axis’. In this, the names of ‘Radical Shia Axis’ and ‘Emerging Radical Sunni Axis’ have been specifically taken.
- Radical Shia Axis: In this, the names of Iran and its supported groups like Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthi have been taken, against whom Israel has taken strict steps in the past also.
- Radical Sunni Axis: This includes extremist networks like ISIS and other emerging threats, which will be challenged by this alliance.
Who will join the alliance?
Apart from India and Israel, Greece and Cyprus will also be included in this alliance. Netanyahu said that other Arab, African and Asian countries will also be included in this alliance, which will be revealed later.
Netanyahu’s statement
Netanyahu said, “In my view, a complete system will be formed, which will work like a ‘hexagon’ around or inside the Middle East. It will include India, Arab countries, African nations, Mediterranean countries like Greece and Cyprus, and some Asian countries. This alliance will become an axis of those countries which are against the radical Shia and Sunni axis and have similar thinking.”
Combating Radical Sunni Axis
This alliance has come at a time when tensions in the Middle East are at their peak. The conflict between Israel and Iran is already ongoing, and a strategic defense agreement was signed between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in September 2025, which is being seen as an ‘Islamic NATO’. Türkiye is also trying to join it. Netanyahu described it as part of the ‘radical Sunni axis’ and said that Hexagon would counter it.
What will be the benefit to India?
This alliance is important for India as it will provide an opportunity to move beyond bilateral relations and create a multilateral security framework. India, UAE and Israel already cooperate under frameworks such as the Abraham Accords and the I2U2 grouping, but there was no formal security pact until now. There will be an emphasis on security, intelligence sharing and strengthening defense cooperation in the Hexagon.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Israel
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Israel is taking place on February 25-26, at the invitation of Netanyahu. This is PM Modi’s second official visit to Israel, and during this the two leaders will talk about regional and global issues that are of interest to both the countries. The Hexagon alliance is likely to be discussed during the visit, although this has not been officially confirmed.
