Kuwait City: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today met the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This was the first meeting between the two leaders. PM Modi was formally welcomed upon reaching Bayan Palace. Along with this, the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah also welcomed him.

1. The leaders recalled the strong historical and friendly relations between the two countries. Reaffirmed their full commitment to further expand and deepen bilateral cooperation. In this context, they agreed to elevate bilateral relations to the level of strategic partnership.

2. The Prime Minister thanked His Highness the Amir for ensuring the well-being of the over one million strong Indian community in Kuwait. His Highness the Amir appreciated the contribution of the large and vibrant Indian community to the development of Kuwait.

3. The Prime Minister praised the new initiatives being taken by Kuwait to fulfill its Vision 2035. And congratulated His Highness the Amir on the successful organization of the GCC Summit earlier this month. The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for inviting him as the guest of honor at the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup yesterday.

4. The Amir echoed the Prime Minister's sentiments and appreciated India's role as a valued partner in Kuwait and the Gulf region. The Amir expressed hope for India's greater role and contribution towards realizing Kuwait Vision 2035.

5. The Prime Minister invited the Amir to visit India.

What is Kuwait Vision 2035

Kuwait Vision 2035 is a strategic development plan of the Government of Kuwait. Its objective is to make Kuwait a regional trade and investment center by 2035. Apart from this, under this plan, a target has been set to connect Kuwait's economy with sectors other than oil.
