India wins 7 gold medals in Asian Cross Country in Hong Kong

Indian athletes dominated the Hong Kong Golf Club course at the Asian Cross Country Championships on Sunday, winning seven gold medals, three of which were in the individual categories.

Top Indian athletes won 11 medals, including three silver and one bronze in the individual categories in their first continental cross country meet of the season.


India won gold medals in all four team categories – men's, women's, men's under-20 and women's under-20.

While there was a clean sweep in the men's individual 10 km event, Indian women athletes won gold and silver in the individual 10 km race but missed out on a bronze medal.

Asian Games medalist and national record holder in 5,000m and 10,000m track events Gulveer Singh topped the men's 10km race.

His gold medal winning time was 32:43. Abhishek Pal finished second with a timing of 32:49, while Arun Rathod finished third with a timing of 32:51. Karthik Kumar stood fourth.

India's Seema won the gold medal by timing 37:20, beating compatriot Sanjivani Jadhav. Sanjeevani also took the time of 37:20 and had to be satisfied with the silver medal.

Women (10km): Seema 37:20, Sanjivani Jadhav 37:20, He Wuga (China) 38:02.

Women (Under 20) 6km: Li Yuan (China) 22:59, Shilpaben Veljibhai Dihora (India) 23:04, Fang Yujia (China) 23:05.

Men (10 km): Gulveer Singh (India) 32:43, Abhishek Pal (India) 32:49, Arun Rathore (India) 32:51.

Men (U-20) 8km: Vinod Singh (India) 26:30, Fu Qiguang (China) 26:33, Yu Shuiqing (China) 26:44.
