Indian born Australian player’s explosive batting in BBL

Xerces Wadia’s rising star in BBL

New Delhi : The Big Bash League (BBL) cricket tournament started on 14 December, after which many players showed their talent. One special name among these is Xerces Wadia, who is a young player born in India. He caught everyone’s attention on the BBL stage by scoring 34 runs in 16 balls, which included 24 runs in one over against Brisbane Heat.

New identity for Adelaide Strikers

Wadia established himself as a rising star for the Adelaide Strikers in the 2025–26 season. Although the result did not go in Adelaide’s favour, his explosive innings made him one of the most interesting young players in Australian domestic cricket.

Great performance and success under pressure

The 24-year-old all-rounder showed his strong performance in the match between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat at Gabba on Sunday and caught the attention of cricket lovers. In his second BBL match, he managed to do what many experienced batsmen are unable to do in high-pressure chase situations.

Wadia scored 34 runs in just 16 balls. The highlight of his innings was the 15th over, when he changed the complexion of the match by hitting three consecutive sixes and a four off the bowling of Jack Wildermuth. During this, he created a wave of enthusiasm in the audience.

Xerxes Wadia was born on 3 December 2001 in India. Before going to Australia, he played age-group cricket for the Baroda team. He is from a family of Indian heritage, and his parents live in Mumbai. He is a left-handed batsman and left-arm orthodox bowler. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Wadia became part of the Adelaide Strikers’ U19 program, but the pandemic halted his progress.

Wadia returned to Adelaide and gradually gave his cricket career a new footing through South Australian Premier Cricket. From the 2022–23 season, he played for Adelaide, East Torrens and Tea Tree Gully clubs and consistently excelled in batting and bowling.

Opportunity to replace Alex Carey

Wadia was included in the Adelaide Strikers’ squad for the summer of 2025–26 as a replacement for star wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carey, who was playing in the Ashes.

He made his BBL debut against the Melbourne Stars on 23 December, but had a relatively ordinary performance in that match, scoring only seven runs off Harris Rauf.
