However, after the match was over, captain Shreyas Iyer told everyone about the reason which became the biggest reason for Team India’s defeat.

Shreyas Iyer told the real reason for the defeat

In the fifth T-20 match played with England, the Indian cricket team had to face defeat by 54 runs. Batting first, the host team had set a mountain-like target of 258 runs, in response to which Team India could only score 201 runs at the loss of 8 wickets and lost the match. After this defeat, captain Shreyas Iyer told about the reason due to which this match went out of the hands of Team India.

Shreyas Iyer said, “Yes, absolutely. I think especially on this pitch, where the ball was so good, we probably could have won smartly. But we also dropped a few catches, which caused a bit of damage to the total. Had the catches been taken, we probably would have been chasing around 220 to 225. But unfortunately we didn’t get that chance, but hopefully, as we said earlier, we learned a lot from it.”

Did you suffer huge losses due to too many wickets falling in the powerplay? In response to this Iyer said, “We lost because a lot of wickets fell at once. Instead of building partnerships, we were chasing targets, which is not good on these wickets. I think you have to take into account that this is the way the wicket is playing. So take your time, target your particular bowlers. And I thought his bowling was absolutely spot on. He has played a lot of cricket here. So I am sure he met his target.”

Big lesson learned from T-20 series

India has lost the T-20 series played with England. For the first time, India has faced a clean sweep of 0-4 in T20 International in England. However, captain Shreyas Iyer admitted that he got to learn a lot from this series.

Iyer further said, “We learned a lot from this series. First of all, conditions, awareness, and adapting to the wickets. I think this was probably the best wicket we have ever played on. You must have noticed that today when we batted, our approach was completely different and I think it is all about adapting to the conditions. The conditions kept changing right from the first match. But yes, being professionals, We have to understand all these conditions and be aware of them.”

Iyer praised Butler and Brook

Jos Buttler and Harry Brook batted brilliantly in the fifth T20 match played in Nottingham. Both of them made a partnership of 241 runs for the second wicket. Butler was out after scoring 131 runs in 64 balls, while captain Harry Brook played a brilliant inning of 95 runs in 45 balls.

Regarding the Butler-Brooke partnership, Captain Iyer said, “I think Buttler batted brilliantly. Then Harry came in and turned the match in their favor. That partnership definitely took care of their innings. We also dropped a few catches. I think that could have changed the momentum of the match. But still, there was a lot to learn and I’m sure the boys will take that into account the next time they come here.”
