This video shared on Instagram has been viewed more than 2.1 crore times so far and has received more than 14 lakh likes. Harini’s footwork, expressions and stage presence are so excellent that people are never tired of praising her.
However, while on one hand people are appreciating his creativity, on the other hand some users also called it an insult to Bharatnatyam. Some trolls said that such fusion affects the sanctity of classical dance.

New identity of ‘Indian Fusion’ on global stage
Responding to these criticisms, Harini clearly said that her performance was not pure Bharatanatyam, rather she had participated in the ‘Indian Fusion’ category. Harini, who has been learning classical dance for the last 23 years, challenged the trolls and asked them to come on stage and show their art.
Harini, who hails from Chennai, is currently a professional dancer and choreographer in Chicago and also the Program Head at ‘Kalampriya Center for the Indian Performing Arts’. This viral video of his proves that when Indian art meets modern style, it can create a new identity on the global stage.
