Khamenei died in February

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died on 28 February 2026. According to reports, he was killed in a military attack by America and Israel. There was news of his wife and many other senior leaders being killed in this attack.

However, due to the ongoing military conflict in the area at that time and security reasons, his last rites could not be performed immediately. Due to this, all the funeral rituals are being held after about four months in July.

Took the highest responsibility of Iran for a long time

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei took over as the Supreme Leader of Iran after the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1989. For more than three decades, he led the supreme religious and political authority of the country.

During his tenure, Iran’s foreign policy, nuclear program and relations with Western countries remained the subject of global discussion.

India-Iran relations will gain importance

Experts believe that the presence of the Indian delegation at the funeral will be considered a symbol of the traditional diplomatic relations between the two countries.

India and Iran have a long-standing partnership on many important issues such as energy, trade, Chabahar port project and regional strategic cooperation. In such a situation, high level representation from India is being considered important for the relations between the two countries.
