Indian government confirms safety of seafarers amid Strait of Hormuz tensions
The Indian government has confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the West Asia region remain safe despite heightened tensions and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
Ports & Shipping Additional Secretary Mukesh Mangal stated there have been no incidents involving Indian-flag vessels in the past 24 hours. He specifically highlighted that two LPG carriers **Green Sanghvi** and Green Asha successfully crossed the Strait of Hormuz in the past two days.
Key Details on the Vessels
– Green Sanghvi carried approximately 46,500 metric tonnes of LPG with 25 Indian seafarers onboard.
– Green Asha carried about 15,400–15,500 metric tonnes of LPG with 26 Indian seafarers.
These transits mark continued safe passage for Indian-flagged vessels amid the regional conflict.
Chates Situation
At present, 16 Indian-flagged vessels are operating in the western Persian Gulf region, carrying a total of 433 Indian crew members. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is continuously coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, Indian missions abroad, and maritime stakeholders to monitor the situation and ensure seafarer welfare.
The government emphasized that maritime operations remain uninterrupted and that it is actively working to safeguard India’s energy security interests in the volatile area.
