Indian Crew Member Death: On Monday, a bomb-laden drone boat attacked a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman off the coast of Muscat, killing a crew member and causing a fire, news agency AFP reported. The state-run Oman News Agency identified the ship as MKD VYOM and confirmed that the deceased sailor was an Indian national.
The attack comes amid heightened regional tensions following US-Israeli attacks on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory actions across the region. It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the attack.
Earlier reports had suggested that a projectile had hit the tanker as it passed off the coast of Oman. The ship’s manager, V.Ships, said the ship was attacked on March 1.

“The ship exploded and then caught fire after being hit by a suspicious projectile off the coast of Muscat, Oman on March 1,” V.Ships Asia said in a statement. It further said, “We are very sad to inform that a crew member who was in the engine room at the time of the incident has died.”
Omani officials said that the driverless boat contained explosives and that caused the deadly blast. And no information has been received yet about the injuries to the people or the total damage caused to the tanker.

Indian Embassy is coordinating with officials
The Indian Embassy in Oman said it is in close touch with Omani authorities following a separate maritime incident involving the ship MV Skylight.
“The Mission is in constant touch with the Omani authorities who are conducting search operations for the missing crew members following the incident involving the MV Skylight. We are also coordinating with the authorities in Oman to bring back the crew members rescued from the MV Skylight and will continue to provide all possible assistance in this matter,” the embassy said in a statement posted on social media. large scale area impact

Additionally, Bangladesh has confirmed that two of its citizens have died, one in the United Arab Emirates and the other in Bahrain, amid the escalating West Asia conflict.
