Indian men’s football team slips to lowest ranking in seven years

The year keeps getting worse for the Indian men’s football team as they slump to 127th position in the latest FIFA World Rankings on Tuesday.

This is India’s lowest ranking in the past seven years.

The last time India’s rankings slipped further was in January 2017 when the national team was placed 129th.

The ranking is a sharp decline from the 99th position India achieved in July 2023. India has been below 100 this year with rankings of 117 in February, 121 in April and June, 124 in July, 126 in September, 125 in October.

After failing to register any win throughout the year, this is another low point for the Indian team.

2024 hasn’t been kind to the Indian team with disastrous performance in the AFC Asian Cup, sacking of Igor Stimac, and zero wins in the year.

However, the Indian team has showed signs of improvement under new coach Manolo Marquez.

India’s last two games against Malaysia and Vietnam has been a draw with one goals each.

The team has improved in terms of gameplay and the youngsters like Farukh Choudhary and Irfan Yadawad performing in the limited chances they are getting.

India will return to action when the international window opens up in March 2025.
