Microsoft has named Indian-origin Asha Sharma as its new executive vice president and CEO of its gaming division. Asha Sharma will replace Phil Spencer, who Microsoft Has been working in gaming for the last 4 decades and is about to retire. Announcing the announcement, CEO Satya Nadella said, “I am excited about gaming and its role at the center of our customers’ ambitions. I am very pleased to announce that Asha Sharma will be the new Executive Vice President and CEO of the Gaming Division and will support me.

Who is Asha Sharma?

Asha Sharma is an alumnus of the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management. According to the profile he shared on LinkedIn, he has about 15 years of experience in technology, product and operations leadership roles. He started his career in 2011 from the marketing department of Microsoft. After working for two years, she joined Porch Group as Chief Operating Officer. Here he has played a very important role in the progress of the company. He led Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing and Operations. In 2017, she joined Meta as Vice President of Product and Engineering. She has served as Head of Product at Messenger and Instagram Direct, and was General Manager of Calling, Video and Kids Experience. Also, he has previously served as Director of Social Impact Products. Asha Sharma has held the position of Chief Operating Officer at Instacart for 3 years, helping the company achieve IPO and profitability. He had the opportunity to oversee manufacturing, design, data science, research, marketing, operations, customer support and new business with a GMV P&L of over $30 billion.

In 2024, Asha Sharma joined Microsoft as President, Core AI Products. He has led the product portfolio of AI models, applications, agents, responsive AI and developer tools for customers worldwide. Previously, she served as corporate vice president and head of product for Microsoft’s AI platform. He has now been promoted to lead Microsoft Gaming, which includes the Xbox business. Sharma also serves as a board member at Kupang and The Home Depot. Xbox has been redesigned at Microsoft. Matt Booty will become Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer and will report to Asha Sharma.
