New Delhi: Indian-origin MP Chandra Arya in Canada has announced his candidacy for the post of Prime Minister. On January 9, he expressed his desire to become Prime Minister by sharing a 2 minute 36 second video on social media platform X. This announcement has been made after the resignation of former Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, after which the political turmoil regarding the race for the post of Prime Minister in the country has intensified. Chandra Arya was earlier a close aide of Justin Trudeau, but ever since Trudeau's anti-India stance came to light, Arya decided to part ways with him.

He had also come out openly on this issue after the attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton city of Canada. Chandra Arya was born in Tumakuru, Karnataka, India. He did his MBA from Kausali Institute of Management Studies and immigrated to Canada in 2006. Before entering politics, he was the President of the Indo-Canada Ottawa Business Chamber. Chandra Arya won the Canadian federal elections for the first time in 2015, and then became an MP by winning the elections again in 2019.
