Indian player ran away to avoid doping test, now AIU bans her for 3 years

Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has taken action against an Indian player. AIU said that Indian sprinter Pooja Atmaram had run away in fear before the doping test to be conducted during the competition last year. Now Pooja has admitted her mistake and confessed to the crime. After this, he has now been banned for three years instead of four.

 

Pooja was selected for dope test after winning the Indian Oil WNC Navy Half Marathon in Mumbai on November 23 last year. However, Pooja ran away from there rather than face the doping test. He was informed about the doping test but despite this he did not sign the paper.

What did AIU say?

AIU said in its decision, ‘Immediately after the end of the race, one Doping Control Officer (DCO) and one Lead DCO verbally informed the athlete about being selected for doping test. After receiving the information, this athlete did not sign the Doping Control Form (DCF). AIU further said that the supervisor tried to locate the athlete and immediately informed that the athlete ran away after verbally informing the DCO about being selected for the trials. He also informed the race director in this regard.

Didn’t even answer the call

AIU said that athlete Pooja had fled after getting information about the doping test. “The director tried to contact him over phone, but he did not respond to any call,” the AIU wrote in its order. According to the information, disciplinary action against Pooja was initiated on February 3 this year.

Pooja apologized

When Pooja got information about this action, she admitted her crime within a week and apologized. According to the rules, Pooja could have been banned for four years, but due to the apology, AIU has now banned Pooja for only three years. AIU has given relaxation for three out of four years.

 

Let us tell you that Pooja participates in 5,000 meter and 6,000 meter competition. She is 30 years old and has been participating in racing for the last several years. He had achieved third place in the Indian Grand Prix-2 for Rajasthan in 2024, which is his best performance till date.
