New Delhi : As a cheap and comfortable travel Indian Railwaysis preferred. Considering the increasing number of passengers, many important steps are being taken by the railways. In this, Railways has now given a gift to senior citizens and women above 45 years of age. Henceforth, an automatic process of allotment of lower berths to senior citizens and women above 45 years of age has been introduced.

Currently, the winter session of Parliament is going on. The opposition is preparing to encircle the government in this session. Meanwhile, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav gave important information in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. Railways have established specific quotas for lower berths in different classes. There will be 6-7 lower berths in sleeper class, 4-5 lower berths in 3 AC and 3-4 lower berths in 2 AC. The railway minister also said that these berths will be reserved only for senior citizens, women above 45 years and pregnant women.

The Railway Minister further said that the new and upgraded coaches are being equipped with special facilities like wide doors, wide berths and large compartments, space for wheelchairs, toilets with wide doors and additional grab rails for support in toilets. Special provisions will also be made in Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat trains.

Handicapped will also be considered

These trains are designed keeping in mind the needs of the disabled. The first and last coaches of ‘Vande Bharat’ are wheelchair accessible, wide toilets and capable of easy movement. Mail/Express, Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains have special reservations for disabled passengers and their companions. As per rules, four berths (two lower and two middle) are reserved for sleeper and 3AC/3E classes and four berths are reserved for 2S/CC.
