Indian Railways: Indian Railways is the fourth largest rail network in the world. Every day lakhs of people travel by train in the country and it is the responsibility of the train driver i.e. loco pilot to take all these passengers to their destination safely. The thing to note is that the responsibility of a loco pilot is not only to run the train but it is very important to take full care of signals, track condition and safety rules. But do you know how much salary a loco pilot gets and what facilities he gets from the government.

What is the basic salary for this post?

In Railways, one does not start as a direct loco pilot but starts from the post of Assistant Loco Pilot. If seen on the basis of Seventh Pay Commission, the starting basic salary of Assistant Loco Pilot is approximately Rs 19,900 per month. After working for a long time, when assistant loco pilots become senior loco pilots on the basis of experience and promotion, their basic salary can be Rs 35,000 to Rs 60,000 or even more.

Many allowances are added to the basic salary

It is worth noting that along with the basic salary of a loco pilot, many other allowances are added, due to which the total in-hand salary ranges from around Rs 40,000 to Rs 80,000. These allowances include allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Transport Allowance, Night Duty Allowance, overtime payment and running allowance (based on kilometers of train running).

What are these government facilities?

Apart from salary, loco pilot gets free or concessional railway travel, government accommodation, medical facilities in railway hospital, pension and gratuity, some special benefits for children’s education, due to these facilities this job is considered safe and permanent.
