Indian team for T20 World Cup will be announced on Saturday, selection committee meeting will be held in Mumbai

New Delhi. The Indian team for next year’s T20 World Cup will be announced on Saturday. Along with this, the men’s selection committee will announce the team for the T20 series against New Zealand. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and T20 team captain Suryakumar Yadav will also hold a press conference at 1:30 pm. The T20 World Cup will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7.

The senior national selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will meet at the board’s headquarters, after which a press conference will be held in which Indian T20 team captain Suryakumar and chief selector Agarkar will be present. The Indian team will play the last match of the five-match T20 series against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Friday. It is being told that Suryakumar Yadav will reach Mumbai directly after this match.

The Indian team has to play a three-match ODI series against New Zealand from January 11, after which a five-match T20 series will also be played. It is believed that this will be the last bilateral series of the Indian team before the T20 World Cup. Along with the T20 World Cup, the selection committee will also select the team for the T20 series against New Zealand. The Indian team will defend its title in this global tournament. Till now no team has successfully defended the T20 World Cup title.

There is no doubt that the contenders for most of the places are fixed, but there are some places for which there is a tussle. Vice-captain Shubhman Gill’s poor form remains a matter of concern for the team management. With his inclusion, Sanju Samson was sent to the middle order, but now he has been out of the playing eleven for the last few matches. At the same time, Gill did not play in the fourth T20 match against South Africa due to injury.

India won the trophy by defeating South Africa in 2024 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. India will enter this tournament with the intention of defending the title. This will be the 10th edition of this tournament. Apart from India, Group A has teams from Pakistan, America, Netherlands and Namibia. Group B features Australia, co-hosts Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe and Oman. England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal and Italy are present in Group C. Whereas, in Group D there are teams of New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, Canada and UAE.

India will start its campaign in the tournament against America on February 7. This match will be played in Mumbai. After this, the match between India and Namibia will be played in New Delhi on 12 February. Then on February 15, the grand match of the tournament between India and Pakistan will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. In fact, under the agreement between ICC, BCCI and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), all the matches between India and Pakistan will be held at neutral venues till 2027. This is why Colombo will host the match between the two teams. India will play its last match in the group stage on February 18 in Ahmedabad.
