New Delhi: Former Indian cricket team opener Virender Sehwag believes that the Indian team has the required skill, balance and mentality to win the Asia Cup. That is why the Indian team can win the Asia Cup title. Speaking on Sony Sports Network, Sehwag said, “There will be a lot of pressure playing in Dubai, but this is the stage where our players shine. I am confident that India will once again make the country proud by winning the trophy. The Asia Cup always brings out the best in Indian cricket. Suryakumar Yadav’s team has the skill, poise and mentality to face any challenge.”
Sehwag said that one of my favorite memories of the Asia Cup is going to the dressing room on match days and feeling the excitement even before setting foot on the field. You can hear the slogans outside, feel the energy in every corner. I remember telling my teammates, let’s not just play a match today, we’ll give the fans a day they’ll never forget. Asia Cup 2025 is the 17th edition of this tournament. In the last 16 editions, the Indian team has been victorious 8 times. Thus, India has dominated this tournament.
BCCI announced the team for Asia Cup on Tuesday. Shubhman Gill has returned to India’s T20 International squad for the Asia Cup and will also be the vice-captain. The presence of players like Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Verma and Sanju Samson has made the Indian team strong. Asia Cup starts from 9th September. India’s first match is with UAE on 10 September. India is in the group, the other three teams are Pakistan, Oman and UAE. India is the defending champion of the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup was last played in ODI format in 2023. This time it is being organized in T20 format.
