India’s befitting reply to Trump’s ‘hell’ jibe, calls President’s statement ‘irresponsible’
New Delhi: India has expressed strong objection to US President Donald Trump’s statement in which India was called “hell on earth”. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday (23 April 2026) that such comments are the result of ill-informed, wrong and bad thinking. The ministry made it clear that these things do not match the reality of strong India-America relations.
India issued a clear statement
Let us tell you that the Ministry of External Affairs made it clear that these things do not match the reality of strong India-America relations. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have seen those comments and have also seen the US Embassy’s clarification. These statements are completely irresponsible. India-US relations have long been based on mutual respect and shared interests. Such things do not reflect that reality.”
Donald Trump had shared a controversial post
This entire controversy started when Donald Trump re-shared radio host Michael Savage’s post on ‘Truth Social’. Savage criticized birthright citizenship in the US and described India and China as “hell on earth”. In his podcast ‘Savage Nation’, he argued that a child becomes a citizen as soon as he is born in America and then invites his entire family from countries like India and China.
“A child born here immediately becomes a citizen, then they bring their entire family from China, India or any other ‘hell’ on earth,” the President wrote in the post. Donald Trump shared both the transcript and video of this podcast. Savage also questioned the role of the Supreme Court and demanded that the decision on birthright citizenship be decided by referendum.
American Embassy gave clarification
Savage’s post also used offensive language towards Indian and Chinese immigrants. Calling them “thugs with laptops,” he accused them of “disrespecting the American flag.” As the controversy escalated, the American Embassy tried to do damage control.
“The President has said that India is a great country, at the head of which I have a very good friend,” the embassy spokesperson said. Earlier, India had expressed displeasure without directly taking the name of Donald Trump. Randhir Jaiswal had said, “We have seen some reports. This is all we will say for now.”
