India’s befitting reply to Trump’s permission to buy oil from Russia, said- ‘No permission needed’

Uncertainty has increased in the global oil market amid increasing military tension in the Middle East. The situation remains tense around the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered one of the world’s most important oil transportation routes. The situation in the Gulf region has become more sensitive after the military action by the United States and Israel on Iran. In such an environment, concerns about oil supply and prices have increased at the international level.

India replied

Meanwhile, news came out that America has expressed its opinion about India buying oil from Russia, after which the discussion intensified in political and strategic circles. However, the Central Government on Saturday took a clear stand on this issue and said that India takes decisions keeping in mind its energy needs and will buy crude oil only from where cheaper and better options are available.

In a statement issued by the government, it was said that despite the increasing tension in the Strait of Hormuz, India’s energy supply currently remains safe and stable. In the last few years, India has expanded its sources of crude oil. Whereas earlier the country used to import oil from about 27 countries, now this number has increased to about 40 countries. Due to this, many alternative routes of supply have become available and dependence on any one area has reduced.

The government also confirmed that India will continue to buy crude oil from Russia after getting the US temporary exemption. This relaxation was given due to the increasing conflict in the Middle East. The Center made it clear that India takes decisions keeping in mind its energy interests and is not dependent on the permission of any other country to import oil.

What did India say on purchasing oil from Russia?

According to the government, India has been buying oil from Russia in the past and even in February 2026, Russia remains India’s largest supplier of crude oil. Even after the Russia-Ukraine war, India continued importing oil from Russia despite objections from America and European countries. After 2022, this import saw a significant increase due to the concessional prices given by Russia and demand from Indian refineries.

Regarding energy security, the government also said that the country has sufficient reserves of crude oil and petroleum products. India has reserves of more than 250 million barrels, which is equivalent to about seven to eight weeks of consumption. Apart from this, India’s total refining capacity is about 258 million metric tons per year, which is more than the current domestic needs of the country.

Experts believe that American and Israeli military action against Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory activities in the Gulf region have affected global energy supplies and maritime trade routes. For this reason, oil prices are rising in the international market and concerns about energy security are increasing in many countries.
