India’s first open sea marine fish farming project launched






Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today launched India’s first open sea fisheries project in the Andaman Sea. During this, the Union Minister gave credit to PM Narendra Modi and described it as the first important step taken towards realizing the blue economy through India’s vast marine resources.

Speaking on the occasion, the Union Minister said that this initiative is one of the earliest and important steps taken towards unlocking the economic potential of India’s oceans.

The project is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Earth Sciences, Government of India, its technical wing National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) and the Union Territory Administration of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This pilot initiative aims to carry out open sea farming of marine fish and seaweed under natural marine conditions, integrating scientific innovation with livelihood generation.
