India’s historic win over Afghanistan by 300 runs, still no advantage in WTC
Mullanpur: In the historic one-off Test match, the Indian cricket team demonstrated its strength brilliantly by defeating Afghanistan by a huge margin of an innings and 300 runs. Under the leadership of captain Shubman Gill, Team India completely dominated the opposition team in all three departments, batting, bowling and strategy. However, despite such a big victory, the Indian team did not get any advantage in the points table of the ICC World Test Championship, due to which many cricket fans are surprised.
The result of the match was not included in the WTC points table
Actually, the result of this match was not included in the WTC points table because this match was not a part of the current World Test Championship cycle. According to the ICC schedule, some Test matches are played as part of bilateral series, but they are not included in the official schedule of the WTC. This only Test played between India and Afghanistan also falls in the same category. Therefore, India won but did not get championship points.
This question also arises in the minds of many cricket lovers that why Afghanistan is not a part of the WTC despite getting Test status. The reason for this is the competition structure of ICC. The World Test Championship currently features only the top Test nations, who regularly play long Test series and have adequate cricket infrastructure, resources and experience.
Teams like Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe have the right to play Test cricket, but they are not yet part of the regular Test program at the level that is considered necessary to participate in the WTC. During the two-year cycle, teams have to play several Test series in home and away conditions. Running such a big program is still considered challenging for new Test teams. For this reason, he is currently given the opportunity to play different bilateral test matches.
If we talk about the match, India won the toss and batted first and declared its first innings by scoring 564 runs for 8 wickets. Indian batsmen maintained pressure on the Afghan bowlers from the beginning. In reply, Afghanistan’s first innings was reduced to only 152 runs and India got a huge lead of 412 runs.
Collapsed for just 112 runs in the second innings
Even after getting the follow-on, the Afghan batsmen could not face the Indian bowlers and were all out after scoring only 112 runs in the second innings. With this, India registered a historic victory by an innings and 300 runs. Although this victory was recorded in the record books, it had no impact on the WTC points table.
Left arm spinner Suthar took a total of 7 wickets in the match. Manav Suthar managed to take 6 wickets in the first innings and one wicket in the second innings. Manav Suthar has become the 10th bowler for India to take 5 wickets in his Test debut.
