India’s indigenous Bhargavastra: Counter-drone system will now release 64 mini rockets in 10 seconds, in its final test…
New Delhi. An important achievement has been achieved in the direction of strengthening the drone security of the Indian Army. The indigenous Bhargavastra (‘Bhargavastra’) counter-drone system developed by Solar Industries has now reached its final testing. The entire trials are expected to be completed by December 2026. This system has been designed to eliminate enemy drones, loitering munitions and especially swarm attacks.
Bhargavastra works on a layered hard-kill interception architecture. In this, 64 micro-rockets or missiles can be installed in a single launcher. The entire salvo i.e. all weapons can be fired simultaneously in just 10 seconds. This capability makes it extremely effective against drone swarm attacks. The system can detect medium and large UAVs from a distance of 10 kilometers and small drones from a distance of more than 6 kilometers.
double strike capability
There are two types of weapons in Bhargavastra. Unguided micro-rockets are used to prevent swarm attacks, which cover large areas. Guided micro-missiles are used for precise attack, which directly hit the target. It works on hit-to-kill technology. The system is connected with C4I network and has EO/IR sensors, which can work day and night in any weather.
Bhargavastra has been designed keeping in mind the different geographical conditions of India. It works well even in deserts, plains and hilly areas at altitudes up to 5000 meters. This capability makes it best for border security, protection of important military bases and strategic locations.
Importance in modern warfare
Drones and swarm attacks have become the biggest challenges in today’s war. No air defense system can provide 100% protection. In such a situation, systems like Bhargavastra create a dense and overlapping shield around critical assets. By deploying 4-6 Bhargvastra systems in important areas, it will be very easy to stop the enemy’s saturation attack. Other defense systems will cost more.
This system is a big step towards India developing indigenous anti-drone shield. Developed entirely by Indian companies, Bhargavastra will not only increase the combat capability of the army but will also reduce dependence on foreign technology. After successful final testing, its early induction into the Indian Army will take India’s defense capability to new heights. In this new era of drone war, indigenous weapons like Bhargavastra will provide a strong security cover to India.
