India’s nuclear stockpile increased, Pakistan shocked by new report!
New Delhi. Once again serious concerns have emerged in the world regarding nuclear weapons. The latest report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) has indicated that even though there has been a slight decline in the total number of nuclear weapons, nuclear risk continues to increase at the global level.
Decreasing numbers, but increasing danger
The SIPRI report states that there are currently more than 12,000 nuclear warheads in the world. Of these, there are more than 9,000 which are kept in storage but can be used immediately when needed. There has been a slight decrease in the numbers compared to previous years, but experts believe that the real threat is arising from changes in the position of weapons and the way they are deployed.
arms control agreements weakened
The report also warns that the global arms control system is weakening. Distrust between countries has increased due to old agreements being broken or becoming ineffective. Due to this, the race for modernization and expansion of nuclear weapons has intensified.
Nuclear capabilities of major countries
Estimates of nuclear weapons of different countries are also given in the report. The US and Russia have the largest stockpiles, which together account for the majority of global nuclear weapons. Apart from this, China, France, Britain, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel are also continuously strengthening their nuclear programs.
India is estimated to have about 190 nuclear warheads, while Pakistan is estimated to have about 170 warheads. China is also rapidly expanding its nuclear arsenal, which is affecting the strategic balance in Asia.
