India’s Playback Legend Asha Bhosle Passes Away At 92

Mumbai: Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away at the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday morning. She was 92.

Her death has been reported by NDTV and ABP News. Asha’s last rites will be held at 4 pm on Monday, it has been reported.

She was admitted to the hospital on Saturday due to a chest infection and exhaustion, her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed concern about her health after coming to know that Asha has been hospitalised.

With a career spanning over eight decades, Asha is known for her versatility and has sung many memorable melodies, from romantic songs to ghazals and peppy numbers.
Songs like ‘Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar’, ‘In Ankhon Ki Masti’,‘Dil Cheez Kya Hai’, ‘Piya Tu Ab to Aaja’, ‘Duniya Mein Logon Ko’, and ‘Zaara Se Jhoom Loon Main’, are among her popular numbers. She has also delivered hits in several other languages.

Asha, younger sister of the late Lata Mangeshkar, recorded over 12,000 songs in different Indian languages and has been the voice for many leading ladies, from Meena Kumari, Madhubala, Zeenat Aman to Kajol and Urmila Matondkar. She also sang for actors like Padmini and Vyjayanthimala.

She performed at a special concert, ‘ASHA@90: Live in concert’, in Dubai in 2023 to celebrate her 90th birthday.
