India’s star batter added to squad as a last minute change for BGT
Indian batter Devdutt Padikkal, who was a player in India A squad in Australia has joined Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, set to begin November 22. The left-handed batter is most likely going to appear for India in the series opener, since Shubman Gill is going to miss the opening Test due to an injury.
Gill got injured while India’s practice session at the WACA stadium in Perth. Gill faced a thumb injury while he was fielding in the slips during match simulation. BCCI went to their ‘X’ account to announce Devdutt getting added to the Indian squad.

Since Rohit Sharma is not available for the first Test due to paternity leave, speculations were being made about Abhimanyu Easwaran making his debut. However, his ongoing challenges against swing and seam have ultimately resulted in him being excluded from the playing XI.
India’s batting order will now most likely feature KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal as openers, with Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli going on No. 3 and No. 4 spot. Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant are expected to make up the top six.
