India’s telecom subscriber base crosses 1.3 billion
The telecom sector in India is continuously touching new heights. According to the recently released TRAI report, the total number of telecom subscribers in the country has exceeded 1.3 billion. This achievement places India among the countries with the largest digital network in the world.
Airtel added the most new users
During December 2025, Airtel surprised everyone by adding 54 lakh new customers. Although the tariff plans have become expensive, the company’s good coverage and reliable services have maintained the trust of the users.
Jio’s reign continues
Reliance Jio has reported data of 30 lakh new subscribers in December 2025, taking the total subscriber count to around 489 million. This shows that Jio’s presence still remains dominant in the Indian telecom market.
Problems of Vodafone Idea and BSNL
While Airtel and Jio have shown strength, the situation is not good for Vodafone Idea (Vi) and BSNL. Vi lost around 9.4 lakh customers in December 2025, while BSNL saw around 2 lakh customers move to other networks. Losing customers has become a matter of great concern for these companies.
Competition will increase with 5G and broadband
The expansion of 5G services and faster broadband connectivity in India will make competition more intense. Users are now not only looking for cheaper plans but also better networks and faster internet. Competition among telecom companies is expected to become even more intense in the coming years.
