India’s third satellite launch center can be built in Gujarat

India is continuously increasing its strength in the space sector and in this context, work is being done rapidly on the establishment of the third Satellite Launch Centre.

New Delhi: After Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, now a new satellite launch center is going to be built in Tamil Nadu also. Along with this, an important update has come out regarding India’s third satellite launch center. Gujarat government has said that the country’s third satellite launch center will probably be established in Gir Somnath.

The state Science and Technology Minister said that a suitable site for this has been identified near Gir Somnath. The construction of this center will further strengthen India’s space capabilities and will boost the satellite launching process and research work in future.

Possibility of third satellite launch center in Gir Somnath

The Gujarat government has confirmed that India’s third satellite launch center may be set up near Gir Somnath district. State Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia told the Assembly that a suitable site has been identified for this center on the banks of the Arabian Sea. According to the minister, this proposed site is located between Diu and Kodinar union territories. Here a launch pad will be developed to launch satellites into orbit.

“This location has been considered suitable after consultation with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe). It will be prepared for satellite launch activities similar to centers like Sriharikota,” he said.

Current and proposed launch centers of India

  • Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh: The major launch center of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), from where many successful satellites and missions have been sent into space.
  • Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu: The second launch center being built at Kulasekarapattinam will further strengthen space activities in South India.
  • Gir Somnath, Gujarat: Proposed third centre, which will be located on the west coast of India and will enhance space launch capability.

Gujarat government’s ambitious step in space sector

The Government of Gujarat is active in increasing investment in the field of space technology and industry. Minister Arjun Modhwadia said that a Space Park is also being established in an area of 100 acres near Sanand. Additionally, Ajista Aerospace has started manufacturing small satellites at a cost of Rs 500 crore. The initiative aims to attract Indian and foreign space companies to work in Gujarat.

The establishment of the third launch center in Gujarat is not only for technological advancement but also has strategic and economic importance. Being located on the west coast, this center will be able to safely place satellites in orbit over the maritime area. Additionally, the space park and launch center together will create new jobs and provide opportunities for technology companies. This can make India’s space industry more globally competitive.
