India’s tough stance on Hormuz attack: Targeting commercial ships wrong
In the tense environment of West Asia, the security of sea routes is under threat. The Ministry of External Affairs has strongly condemned the attack on the Thai ship Mayuri Nari in the Strait of Hormuz. The ship was heading towards Kandla port when the sudden attack occurred.
Black smoke was seen rising from the ship and life rafts were seen floating in the water. The Omani Navy rescued 20 sailors, while the search for three is ongoing. According to experts, the projectile attack occurred 11 nautical miles north of Oman.
The ministry warned that targeting merchant ships in the midst of conflict, putting the lives of crew members at risk or disrupting trade routes is not justified. Many lives, including those of Indians, have been lost in earlier attacks and now they are becoming more deadly.
Spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said that in another attack on the same day, two Indians were killed and one is missing. There are injured in Israel and Dubai also. Embassies are active, providing assistance to families.
9,000 Indians are stranded in Iran. Many have returned, contact is being made with the rest. Some want to go to Armenia-Azerbaijan by land route. All embassies are on 24×7 alert, helpline issued.
The attack is under investigation. India has emphasized on protecting free sea routes for global trade.
