India’s tough stance on Hormuz crisis: ‘The only country to lose a sailor’, voice raised in the meeting of 60 countries

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, India has taken a tough stance on the international forum regarding the Strait of Hormuz. In the meeting of more than 60 countries hosted by Britain, India clearly said that till now it is the only country to lose its citizens in this troubled sea route.

According to sources, in this important meeting, India made a strong demand for immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring safe and uninterrupted movement on international sea routes. This issue has raised serious concerns over global energy security and maritime trade.

India’s representation and strong statement

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri participated on behalf of India in this virtual meeting. He said in clear words that the solution to the current crisis is possible only through reducing tension and diplomacy.

According to the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs,"The Foreign Secretary underlined the impact on India’s energy security and noted that India is the only country to have lost sailors in attacks on merchant shipping in the Gulf region."

India is among the world’s largest crude oil importers, and its energy needs are directly linked to the stability of the Middle East.

It was also said in the meeting that the increasing instability in the region has not only affected global oil prices, but maritime security is also in danger.

Deaths and attacks on sailors

According to the Directorate General of Shipping, so far three Indian sailors have died in attacks on foreign ships stranded in the Hormuz area, while another has been injured.

Emphasis on diplomacy, distance from military option

India made it clear that it prefers dialogue and diplomacy rather than any military confrontation.

The Foreign Ministry said that all parties should return to the path of dialogue, so that the situation does not deteriorate further.

Important meeting of 60 countries

This multilateral meeting was organized to discuss measures to open the Strait of Hormuz. Due to the closure of this route, global oil supply has been affected and the prices of crude oil have increased.

Situation of Indians in Gulf countries

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, about one crore Indian citizens live in Gulf countries. All Indians are safe and the embassies there are in constant touch.

So far, eight Indians have died in this conflict, while one person is reported missing.

Safe return of Indians from Iran

India has safely evacuated 204 Indian citizens from Iran via Azerbaijan. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijan government for this cooperation.

He said that the Ministry, Shipping Ministry and the Indian Mission present in the area are continuously monitoring the situation.
