India women’s tennis team will begin its campaign against Thailand in the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group I tournament at the DLTA Stadium on Tuesday. Ahead of this important match, team captain Vishal Uppal has expressed full confidence about his team’s preparation and performing well in front of their home crowd.

Let us tell you, speaking in a press conference, Uppal said, “We are used to the heat in Delhi and we cannot control this weather. But we can focus on our practice sessions, and I am sure that our team is fully prepared to give its best.”

This time the Indian squad includes Vaishnavi Adkar, Sahaja Yamalapalli, Ankita Raina, Rutuja Bhosle and Zeel Desai. Uppal said that there are many options in the team, which shows the growing potential of Indian women’s tennis. When asked who will play in the singles, he said, “We will know on the match day. And if I have any difficulty in choosing players, I am happy because it means there is depth in the team.”

Vaishnavi Adkar, 21, who recently achieved India’s No. 1 ranking, said, “It is an honor for me to represent the country. We all play as a team and that is very special.” Meanwhile, veteran player Ankita Raina, who has been representing India for more than a decade, reiterated the team’s confidence and said, “We have played against these players and know their strengths and weaknesses. We will be prepared match by match.”

A grand welcome dinner was organized for the team at the DLTA Stadium, which was attended by players, officials and captains from all the competing countries. The Indian team also showcased Indian culture on this occasion and all the players arrived in beautiful sarees.

Finally, Vishal Uppal said, “We expect the people of Delhi NCR to come in large numbers to support our women’s team. DLTA has always been a happy ground for us and we are looking forward to giving our best.”
