A special one-way AC express train connecting Kerala with the national capital region will start on Saturday, from Thiruvananthapuram Central in Kerala’s state capital to Hazrat Nizamuddin in New Delhi.

This latest development came on the heels of the surprise hike in airfares across the country following the recent civil aviation crisis with IndiGo at its centre.

The service, train number 06159 (TVC–NZM AC Special), will run on Saturday, December 13 2025, departing Thiruvananthapuram at 7.45 am and reaching Hazrat Nizamuddin at 7.00 pm on the third day, after a journey of about 59 hours 15 minutes over 3,159 km, a government statement read.​

According to the PIB Thiruvananthapuram and official railway schedules, the train provides extensive north–south connectivity with 37 station stops en route.

In Kerala, it stops at: Thiruvananthapuram Central (start), Kollam Jn (08:43/08:46), Kayamkulam (09:23/09:25), Chengannur (09:44/09:49), Tiruvalla (09:59/10:00), Changanassery (10:08/10:09), Kottayam (10:27/10:30), Ernakulam Town (11:40/11:45), Aluva (12:05/12:07), Thrissur (12:57/13:00), Shoranur Jn (14:05/14:15), Tirur (14:54/14:55), Kozhikode (15:32/15:35), Kannur (16:37/16:40) and Kasaragod (17:44/17:45).

Crossing into Karnataka and Goa, halts include Mangaluru Jn (19:05/19:15), Thokur (20:34/20:35), Udupi (21:08/21:10), Kundapura (21:30/21:32), Mookambika Road Byndoor (22:02/22:04), Karwar (00:30/00:32), Madgaon. (01:05/01:15) and Thivim (02:10/02:12).​

Through the Konkan and western India, the train stops at Ratnagiri (06:05/06:10), Chiplun (07:50/08:00), Roha (11:30/11:32), Panvel (12:30/12:35), Kaman Road (15:29/15:30), Vasai Road (15:50/15:55), Udhna Jn. (20:00/20:05), Vadodara Jn (23:00/23:10) and Ratlam Jn (04:00/04:02).​

In north and central India, final halts are Kota Jn (07:00/07:10), Sawai Madhopur (09:00/09:10), Mathura Jn (13:00/13:02), Palwal (15:59/16:00) and Hazrat Nizamuddin (arrival 19:00).​

Railway officials said the fully air-conditioned consist is aimed at clearing the year-end rush and giving passengers along the western coastal and central routes a direct, long-distance option to reach Delhi without multiple changes. The "o­ne-way special train will be operated to clear the extra rush of passengers"​, according to Indian Railways.

Advance reservations for the special have already opened from the Southern Railway end, the official statement read.
