The Ministry of Civil Aviation has curbed the arbitrary actions of the airlines and fixed maximum fares for domestic flights. Airlines will no longer be able to charge higher fares voluntarily or by taking advantage of passenger compulsions. According to an order issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, it was necessary to control the chaos caused by the reduction in airline services due to the IndiGo crisis. This new rule is effective immediately and will remain in force until the airfares are stabilized or revised. In order not to spoil the budget of the common man, under no circumstances will passengers be charged more than the prescribed fare limit, the ministry has clarified.

Now the fares will be charged according to the distance. To maintain transparency, the government has established different fare slabs according to distance. As per the new rules, if you travel up to 500 km, you will not be charged more than Rs 7,500. For the distance between 500 and 1000 km, this limit has been fixed at Rs 12,000. If your journey is between 1000 to 1500 km then the maximum fare will be Rs 15,000 and for more than 1500 km it will be Rs 18,000. Importantly, this fare does not include user development charges, passenger service charges and taxes. Additionally, this rule will not apply to business class and flight plans. (Central Government)

According to an order issued by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, this new fare limit will apply not only to airline websites but also to all online travel agencies and booking apps. No platform is exempt from this. Also, these agencies may not charge extra. The government has directed all airlines to keep tickets available in all fare categories and increase capacity where demand is high. The government has taken this historic decision to save both time and money of the passengers due to the reduction in flights due to operational difficulties of IndiGo.
