Indigo flight going to Raipur diverted to Nagpur, former CM Bhupesh Baghel and Deputy CM were on board
Chhattisgarh: The weather suddenly worsened in Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, due to which air services were badly affected. On Thursday, an Indigo Airlines flight coming from Delhi to Raipur was not allowed to land in Raipur due to bad weather and strong storm. The pilots diverted the flight towards Nagpur Airport in Maharashtra on the instructions of Air Traffic Control. Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and State Congress Committee President Deepak Baij were on board this flight.
Landing done in Nagpur due to security reasons
According to information received from aviation officials, this special plane took off from Delhi for Raipur’s Swami Vivekananda Airport at around 9 am on Thursday morning. When the plane reached the airspace of Chhattisgarh, the weather suddenly worsened in Raipur and surrounding areas. There was great risk in landing due to strong winds and dense clouds. Giving priority to the safety of the passengers, the plane landed safely at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur.
Two planes had to be diverted simultaneously
Not only Delhi, but the second flight coming from Hyderabad to Raipur also had to be sent to Nagpur. Amid warnings from the Meteorological Department, this second flight was also diverted to Nagpur after circling in the air. In this way, two big planes coming to Raipur at the same time had to make an emergency stop in Nagpur. There were a total of more than 300 passengers on board these planes, including BJP MLA Renuka Thakur.
Departure after waiting for two and a half hours
Due to this diversion, the politicians and common passengers present in the plane had to face immense inconvenience and mental stress for some time. Nagpur airport administration and Indigo Airlines officials handled the situation and provided frequent weather updates to the passengers. We waited for the weather to clear on the Nagpur runway for about two and a half hours. After this, as soon as the green signal was received from Raipur Airport ATC, the plane took off again and landed safely at its scheduled destination, due to which the passengers heaved a sigh of relief.
