Indigo system failed? Know why the country’s biggest airline suddenly came to a standstill – ..
News India Live, Digital Desk: You wake up early in the morning, fight the traffic, reach the airport, go through the security check and when you reach the gate, you find out that your flight has been cancelled. And that too not just one, but hundreds! India’s largest airline in the last few days, IndiGoSomething similar is happening with .
IndiGo, which always claimed to be ‘On Time’, is in deep trouble this week. More than 200 flights have been canceled across the country and thousands of passengers are stranded at airports. From Mumbai to Delhi and Varanasi, only angry passengers and helpless staff are visible everywhere.
After all, how did such a big ‘breakdown’ happen suddenly?
If you think it’s just “dense fog”, then you are not completely right. It’s a combination of three major problems that have plagued the airline:
1. The FDTL Issue:
The biggest internal reason is the new ‘FDTL rules’ implemented by the government. This directly means- Pilot fatigue and restKeeping safety in mind, the rules have been tightened so that pilots do not rest too much and get complete sleep,
Indigo has a lot of flights, but according to the new rules, it is not able to find fresh pilots to fly them. There were irregularities in the duty chart at many places. Meaning the plane is standing, but the pilot flying it is on his “compulsory leave”.
2. Hazy weather of North India:
It is the month of December, so fog is common. Flights were delayed due to low visibility in cities like Delhi, Amritsar and Lucknow. Now the problem is that IndiGo operates on a ‘chain system’—if one flight in the morning is delayed, its impact extends to the last flight of the night. This delay (Cascading Delay) jammed the entire network.
3. Operational Mis-Management:
Such a large number of cancellations are not just due to weather. Somewhere the management failed to realize how the ‘double attack’ of fog and new rules would affect their system. Many passengers complain that they received the cancellation message even after they had reached the airport.
What to do if you have a flight?
This ‘sky jam’ may trouble you for a few more days. If you have booked a ticket, be careful:
- Web Check-in is not enough: Simply having a boarding pass in hand does not guarantee that the plane will take off.
- Track Continuously: Before leaving home, check “Live Status” by entering the flight number on Google.
- Support System: Keep an eye on the airline’s chatbot or Twitter handle. If the flight is cancelled, it is your right to immediately demand a refund or reschedule.
At present, IndiGo is calling it a ‘temporary problem’, but for the passengers sleeping on the airport floor, this experience is no less than a nightmare.
