Indonesia Mount Lewotobi Eruption: Powerful volcanic eruption in Mount Lewotobi, villagers had to evacuate their homes

Indonesia Mount Lewotobi Eruption : At least 10 people have died and several homes have been destroyed after a powerful volcanic eruption on Indonesia's Flores Island. Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano in eastern Flores district erupted on Monday night. The eruption sent a plume of ash more than 2 kilometers (1.24 mi) into the sky and volcanic debris scattered across several nearby villages.

Many houses including a convent were destroyed due to the explosion. Villagers had to evacuate their homes under dark skies filled with ash. According to reports, National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) chief Suharyanto said the relocation was aimed at preventing future tragedies in the event of similar eruptions. Rescue workers are still searching for more bodies beneath collapsed buildings, while at least 10,000 residents of 10 villages are affected and need temporary shelter.
