Southeast Asia’s largest economy to launch $1.5B economic support package, offer 10 kg rice aid for citizens

Indonesia will roll out a 26.34 trillion rupiah (US$1.5 billion) stimulus package in the second half of 2026 to support economic growth, including rice a 10-kilogram rice aid for millions of residents.

The package is primarily focused on food assistance, with 68% allocated to food handouts. The overall package includes discounts on air, rail, and sea transportation, as well as a paid internship program, according to a statement on Monday by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, as reported by the Jakarta Globe.

Chief Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto told reporters that the government will also cover value-added tax costs on airline tickets.

As part of the initiative, Indonesia will distribute 10-kilogram rice packages to 33 million recipients beginning next month, with 17.54 trillion rupiah earmarked for the program, according to CNBC Indonesia.

In the first quarter of 2026, the government spent 15 trillion rupiah on food assistance and other fiscal stimulus measures.

Jakarta is targeting economic growth of at least 5.4% this year, up from 5.11% growth recorded last year.
